Summer Camping Trips
Summer Salmon River trips, like all other seasonal departures, provide nightly lodge accommodations. However, it is possible to arrange a trip with a camping venue. Feel free to ask about minimum and maximum numbers of participants and availability.
Summer trips are scheduled at eight day departure intervals beginning June 25th through July 27th. Early season trips provide the biggest rapids, but the water temperature is on the cool side. As the summer progresses the wave sizes diminish and water temperatures moderate. Late summer offers smaller but more technical rapids and warmer water. Side trips each day allow us to view Indian pictographs, and abandoned homesteads and mining claims. The Salmon River Canyon is rich in history and these brief stops will enable you to experience an educational dimension we consider our specialty, and which other floaters often disregard.
This is the most popular season of the year to float the Salmon. Accordingly, the Forest Service strictly controls and limits access and participation on river trips during the summer. Launch dates are assigned and we cannot deviate from the schedule presented in the brochure. This is an appropriate policy designed to assure you do not experience overcrowding during your trip, and that the numbers of people in the canyon do not cause environmental damage to the shore.
